Hello. I have been writing a whole whack of software which has kept me from doing more mundane things such as updating this page. Rest assured, even when this page is not updated for 4-5 months at a time, there is plenty going on at the rest of the site. Like for instance, I spent about 6 minutes creating this hackergotchi -->
sneetchalizer
The first thing I want to talk about is sneetchalizerwhich is a program I wrote to teach myself Ruby. The sneetchalizer is essentially just like dir2oggexcept it can convert between any two arbitrary supported formats, so, you can convert mp3s to oggs, oggs to mp3s, flacs to m4as, etc etc...
As sneetchalizer accomplishes everything dir2ogg does and more, I think dir2ogg's development is going to slow right down as I focus my efforts on the new script. Please feel free to download and put sneetchalizer through the paces, as there may still be bugs.
wmainfo
The other major project I have been working on are the wmainfoRuby and Python libraries. These came about because I was trying to grab meta-tags from wma files for dir2ogg. I wrecked my brain trying to make sense of the ASF spec that details the wma/wmv format, but eventually gave up and just translated Dan Sully's Audio-WMA Perl module. The aforementioned sneetchalizer uses this library as does the most recent (0.9.3) version of dir2ogg.
To be sure, wmainfo can and does return more information than just wma meta-tags. If you want to get low-level on a wma/wmv file (or anything encapsulated in ASF format) then you may enjoy this lib as a starting point. The python version is only available from my site but you can install the Ruby version via remote gems if you wish.
for my own amusement
Here are a few search strings from my referrer logs that I thought were amusing/strange:
- freebsd blowchunks
- best shagging songs
- happy meal box template
- microsoft rant
- reasons why not to get a newfoundlander
- using nvidia twinview to watch other people's computers
- writers - untimely deaths
