music reviews
As you may know, I am a huge fan of all sorts of music. I listen to bands and artists representative of almost every genre there is, although it has not always been so. You can draw a line through my musical tates, starting at age 12 when I first started buying music independantly from my parents. Before then I just listened to what they did, and in fact this did prove to have an effect on what I like today..
My first love was classic rock. Me and my buddy were huge into bands like the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Pink Floyd, old Genesis, The Who, Cream, and all the rest. Me and John would spend all of our allowance money on used LPs, and to this day I still have the fruits of this period in the form of an extensive vinyl collection. At about 14, I got into metal thanks to my older brother who played Metallica's Master of Puppets for me. By 16, and High School, I was a full on punk. I listened to Black Flag, Dead Kennedy's. the Misfits, and other bands in that vein. By the time I was done school, I opened my mind to everything, and since then I have judged artists on a song-by-song basis, rather than by genre. One thing is true, I have never stopped listening to something I enjoyed before. Rather, the opposite is true. I loathed 80s music during the 80s, but lately I've found I enjoy quite a bit of 80s ;)
In this space, I wish to share some of the jewels I have found, from almost mainstream to completely under the radar of most people. I am loathe to call these reviews, they are all albums that I have bought with my own money so obviously there will be some bias. These could more correctly be called recommendations, and it follows that if you see it in the list, I like it, and furthermore I liked it enough to spend the time writing about it. I would rather spread good news then bad, and that is why I won't write about albums that dissapointed me. Really, I just wish to share some of the great music I have found, and hopefully create new fans for those artists whom inspire me. Enjoy...
